In 3.5, every couple of lvs, you could pick a species (dragon, goblin, ork, elemental, etc.). You would get like +2 on all rolls against members of that species. I'm pretty sure you could pick the same species more than once, and get +2 for each time...

OK, this is going to take some thinking.... Before I take a feat, I want to pick the fighting style. I want to use ranged... so we'll have to see how things are going. Even if I took ranged, could I take weapon proficency as my feat and use swords or something too? Also, unless I change my mind, my character is going to be good.

You wouldn't have to take weapon proficiency- you would still be proficient with some melee weapons.

Well, if you take the Archer fighting style you have access to simple ranged, military ranged, and simple melee. If you take the two blade style you gain access to simple melee, military melee, and simple ranged.

Bows other than the crossbow are military ranged- and simple melee includes Club Dagger Javelin Mace Sickle Spear Greatclub Morningstar Quarterstaff Scythe
