I'm thinking about running a Eladrin character. I'm not sure on the class, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

I would love it Josh if you wanted to be a cleric. A healer in a group goes a long way, and can sometimes be a confusing responsibility for first time players.

I'm a first time DnD player, but I've read the rules (I believe the library owns a copy of these rules), and I know how important a cleric is, even though I prefer rangers and rogues.

Reading everyone's conversations is freaking me out! What if I end up picking a stupid race that actually isn't very good but I don't know that because I've never played before? I DON'T LIKE NOT KNOWING, GUYS.

All races have their pros and cons. There is no GOOD or BAD races, they all balance out. It's more of a personal choice (I prefer non-human races myself), because that's the point of having different races is that they're all good at something.
And I believe Tav is getting together a thread of the stats for the races, it's just taking longer to compile and to the untrained eye will most likely look like gibberish (unless he's putting it in plain english, which will take even longer. HONK, tav, you're putting a HONKload into this thing).

Guys, don't let all this garble intimidate you! There is NO, ABSOLUTELY NO bad character choice (unless of course he's decrepit, ugly, stupid, and impaired....that just wouldn't be fun.) You can be anything the hell you want even if the match doesn't seem completely savory. This is all for fun, and you're not trying to beat anyone. Just live the adventurous lives of the charactes of your imaginations.

PS. You may be a first time DnD player, but you're not a first time d20 player. That'll help a lot. HOWEVER, if I remember correctly, the books in the library are 3.5. Don't get them confused with 4! They are different.

Taylor, if you're telling me I'm not a first time d20 player, I am.
