Thousands of years ago, there was a single werewolf coven. They lived together with the humans, creating a society and kingdom together. The two races were unbreakable allies and neither had a dominant hand over the other. But what this civilization did not know and never could have guessed was that a world was growing around them—A world they would never understand. A world where humans ruled, and mythical creatures were nonexistent.
This werewolf coven lived in a pocket of this world. The Human Empire knew nothing of their existence, as the werewolves knew nothing of the Human Empire. The werewolves had never traveled farther than their own boundaries, and they’d never had the need to. Both worlds grew up separate and with no knowledge of the other.
However, over the years cold crept in and sunk into the ground of the werewolf coven. A famine arose and began eating apart the peaceful society. After years of widespread starvation, a group of werewolves and humans alike decided to head out into the world—to leave the borders no creature or man had ever crossed before and search for food or another way of sustenance. If they found a way, they’d send members back to inform the coven. If no one returned, the coven would assume the outside world was a place that held nothing for them and never cross the borders again.
The sect set out, battling the world and coming across all sorts of unknown, traveling for an unidentified amount of time and surviving as well as they could off the land. And then they crossed paths with the Human Empire.
The specific city they found was relatively small, and dying. The townspeople welcomed the newcomers heartily and were overjoyed at the flocks of people arriving to occupy their empty jobs and save their city.
After deliberating, the cluster decided to settle in the town and see what happened. They were unfamiliar with the city’s way of living and wanted to see if what they could learn would save their coven back home.
Time passed. The town had no knowledge of werewolves or mythical creatures, so the werewolves suppressed that side of themselves and pretended to be humans. The humans that had come with the werewolves stuck with them and mixed with the other humans as well. Things appeared to be happy, but the sect coven held off on sending a representative back to their motherland coven a little longer.
As time was passing something was happening underneath the surface. The werewolves were destroying themselves by hiding half of who they were. They were trying to be something they weren’t: human. By keeping their ‘wolf side a secret they became ashamed of it, and it was meant to be a gift.
Despite similarities, werewolves are built differently than humans. In general ‘wolves tend to have more rage, adrenaline, and other chemicals in their body. And they release all this excess by transforming. It levels out their system, making transforming necessary in order for them to function. The werewolves can pretend to be human for a time, but eventually they cannot any longer because their body becomes physically unstable. And that’s what was happening to these werewolves who pretended they were human.
In this town the werewolf sect had come to call home, a transformation hadn’t occurred in months. Before, ‘wolves used to transform everyday. The whole of the werewolves had come to a point where it was impossible to hold off a transformation any more. So a full moon arrived and pulled on all the chemicals in the werewolves (like it does to create a tide). The werewolves all across the area began transforming against their will. This is where the first story of werewolves was born: they transform during the full moon.
But this transformation was not a normal transformation. It had never happened before, and it was much worse. The ‘wolves had no control of themselves, and they ran rampant across town like actual wild animals. They were positively savage. People were killed and buildings destroyed. Whole neighborhoods were shattered and unlivable. The werewolves terrified the town for the whole night.
When morning came, the townspeople left alive were horrified. They had witnessed people they thought were humans becoming animals. They believed it was an act of evil, and that it was unnatural and terrible and they would stop at nothing to kill those who had done it. But by morning the werewolves had already transformed back into humans, and there was no way to tell who was animal and who was not.
The werewolves gathered in secret. They were confused and disgusted with themselves for what had happened, but they wanted to try and keep living in the town. But their goal was never to hurt the humans there, so they decided to leave during the next full moon and come back once they became human again.
Once the werewolves left, the humans that had once been so much their allies turned against them. They were scared that once the town found out who had caused the slaughter that they too would be blamed for it since they had been so closely knit with the werewolves. And they liked living with other humans, being dominant and powerful. They wouldn’t let the werewolves take that away from them.
The humans took up weapons and surrounded the town. When the ‘wolves returned, they found themselves face-to-face with weapons wielded by angry humans. They’d been discovered, and rejected. The humans went after the ‘wolves and tried to kill them. Normally, the ‘wolves could have taken them. But the weapons were made of silver. And they had never seen silver before, so they took off rather than fight the unknown. Which is where the second biggest werewolf story comes from: Silver is a weakness of werewolves.
The werewolves ran for days without stopping once. The humans they had loved so much had betrayed them, and now they were broken and homeless. They didn’t go back to their coven. By not returning they were hoping to send the message that the people there should never cross the boundaries again and never travel into the outside world. They’d found it to be a cruel and murderous place.
Their story spread. All across the world people were hearing about a group of savage humans who became wolves during the full moon and ripped out people’s throats. Whole towns of people hunted the huge pack of werewolves. There was a giant movement to wipe them out completely, and their numbers did thin. Eventually the pack was forced to split up into smaller groups to try and blend in easier. They went their separate ways.
They settled in towns all over the world. They found that if they transformed often enough of their own will they could prevent themselves from the forced and uncontrollable transformation every full moon, and live as a part of Human society.
Nothing was easy for the werewolves ever again. After The Betrayal, they struggled to simply survive in the Human Empire. They had to pretend to be something they weren’t and keep what they really were a secret. At first, they hated humans even more than they hate meremaids. The werewolves were extremely angry and violent, and they held on to The Betrayal for a long time. Small organizations began to grow in the towns where the werewolves settled; Pro-Werewolf Organizations that banded together and protected each other from humans finding out about them, and humans in general.
Over hundreds of generations, the hate faded from some ‘wolves. A few began marrying humans and having children, and eventually all of the werewolves in the Human Empire were at least part human. The werewolf gene became diluted, but it did survive.
Once, every werewolf had been part of a Pro-Werewolf Organization. But less began joining, and eventually the ones in them were the ones who were remaining hateful and betrayed. And these organizations didn’t target protection from solely humans anymore—they targeted any mythical creature they hated, which was all of them.
Though the werewolves living in the Human Empire have had to hide who they truly are from the humans as a whole, they no longer suppress it. The werewolf as a creature of horror became a widespread idea—but when that original werewolf pack split up, the stories stopped getting believed. They became myths, and they’ve stayed that way ever since.
The werewolves of the Human Empire forgot their ancestry and the coven they came from. But that coven was just fine. The famine died off and starvation subsided—and life went on for them. They got the message from their lost ‘wolves and never crossed the borders again.
Until today.

The werewolves of the Now are a diverse group, not at all like the original unified werewolf coven. There are many that go to school and have jobs and live normal lives. They interact with humans easily; if anything at all gets in the way, it’s the ‘wolf’s own prejudice. However, there are hardly any werewolves living with or having serious or deep relationships with humans. There used to be a lot of ‘wolf-human relationships, but that’s slowed down recently, as there’s been a spike on human hatred.
The reason for the spike is unknown. But there’s also been a rise in Pro-Werewolf Organizations (PWO). More people are joining, and the werewolves are beginning to unify again.
This may be because once again, all the ‘wolves have a common enemy: the other mythical creatures.
In the Human Empire, there are not only werewolves hiding from humans. Meremaids are there, the werewolf rival, as well as a relatively unfamiliar species for the werewolves: the False Fae. And then there are the Dryads, though they tend to stay out of things.
The mythical creatures are at each other’s throats. The werewolves are no exception. Generally, werewolves are an angry species, so they wasted no time jumping in to this tension.

Werewolves look like the animal wolf, except larger and with coarser fur. The Old ‘wolves are all about the same size, which is coming to the top of the chest of someone 6 feet tall (sorry for the bad reference). Now werewolves are usually noticeably shorter, and their sizes range. Some are the size of a wolf, except maybe wider and thicker with a more intelligent look in their eyes. As for coloring (for Old and Now), that usually corresponds with hair color (blond becomes white), but sometimes differs. And then there are markings on the wolf that tend to run in family lines (for instance, a grandfather may have white fur, a mother red, and then a son brown, but they could all still have the exact same lightning bolt shaped black patch on their back, in the same place). Fur type also usually corresponds with hair type (A boy with spiky hair will have spiky fur. A girl with wavy hair will have wavy fur). Just as a boy with short hair will have shorter fur, a girl with long hair will have longer fur, etc. But there is a certain point where the fur will just stop growing, even if the hair continues.
Werewolves also have big paws, big ears, and fluffy tails.
From a relative distance, werewolves can be mistaken for wolves. But at a certain point it’s impossible to make that mistake.

In the original coven, there was a list of abilities and such that every werewolf had to the same strength, except for a few extra-talented who were especially good in a certain area. In the Now, every werewolf has pretty much the same abilities as then, but to different strengths depending on how much of a werewolf they are. There are virtually no full werewolves anymore (in the Human Empire).
The abilities/qualities of a werewolf in the Now and the Old are: -The claws, teeth, etc. And they know how to use them. -Werewolves are fast (in ‘wolf form only). Old ‘wolves are faster; even the slowest Old ‘wolf would be faster than the fastest Now ‘wolf. Old werewolves can go anywhere over 65 miles per hour (though they hardly do), and the fastest Now werewolf can run around 50 mph, and not for very long. The speed for Now werewolves depends on how much of a werewolf they are. -Werewolves can tell what the weather will be a little bit before it happens. In other words, they can “predict” it. Really, they just sniff the air and can tell if rain is coming, etc. They can also predict earthquakes. -As a werewolf, all five senses are greatly enhanced. This helps with the above. -Old Werewolves have an average temperature of 108/109 degrees Fahrenheit. Now werewolves’ temperatures are usually anywhere between 100 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. And for both, their temperatures go down when they are sick. -Instinct. When in werewolf form, the ‘wolves get to experience a wonderful blend of animal instinct and human control (Except when they transform because of the full moon. Then they have no control, lots of killing instinct, and lots of rage). -Werewolves can heal very quickly (as humans, too). Old werewolves heal faster than Now werewolves, but they both heal much faster than humans. If a werewolf had a broken bone or a cut, etc., they wouldn’t be able to transform (well, it’s still possible for them to. Just, every time they did transform they’d break the bone or open the cut all over again).

The following are the opinions of the werewolf majority on other species/creatures. Keep in mind this is simply the majority and there are werewolves that think differently!
MEREMAIDS: Meremaids have had a relationship with the werewolves dating back to the beginning of time. And it’s always been one of hate. The meremaids and werewolves are the only species that have survived from early times, and they’ve always been the most intense rivals. FALSE FAE: The Old werewolves don’t know about the false fae (they’ve never encountered them before), but the Now Werewolves don’t really acknowledge this species as significant. They’re just so bizarre. DRYADS: Again, the Old werewolves don’t have a clue this species exists. But the Now werewolves think this species is possibly even more bizarre than the false fae. What’s with their attachment to trees, anyway? Truthfully, the wolves’re a little scared of their helplessness when the tree nymphs dance…

-When I say “Old” werewolves, I don’t mean they are physically old. Nor do I mean they are in the past, that kind of old, because Old werewolves very much exist in the Now (Demitri is a fine example). “Old” and “Now” is my way of differentiating between the werewolves from the original coven (Old), and the werewolves in the modern area (Now).
-In the original coven, humans and werewolves can date and marry and be friends and are friends with absolutely no issues about it. Werewolves and humans intermix completely. If a human and a werewolf had a baby, it would be fully human though (This is only for the original coven though. Please keep that in mind!).
-Ash is a weakness for the Old werewolves, but the Now werewolves need it to keep control of when they transform and such. Most of them have a little bit in a necklace or bracelet or ring that they keep with them always, and that keeps them regulated. If a Now werewolf is injured, they usually surround them with ash and it’s actually helpful. But, because of all this, ash is still seen as a weakness in the Now: They need ash and are weak without it, just as the Old werewolves can’t be around ash and need to be away from it. If ash were to touch an Old werewolf, it would burn their skin.
-Werewolves as humans tend to be more intense and extreme with their emotions. It’s just a part of their race. If a werewolf (as a human) gets really angry, or reaches an extreme of any emotion really, then they transform into ‘wolf form. It’s inevitable.
-The Old ‘wolves have to take off their clothes before they transform, or else rip them when they grow too big to fit in them. For the Now ‘wolves, it depends on their size. There are some Now ‘wolves that are small enough to still fit their clothes when they transform (though they all usually strip before they transform anyway, if they can help it. Most of the time at least the pants rip no matter what because of the tail).
-All Old werewolves transform effortlessly and never have trouble. For Now werewolves, it’s not always so easy. Sometimes they get stuck in half-forms, but these are extremely painful places to remain. Almost all Now werewolves have at least minimum difficulty in transforming, every time. Some even can’t transform of their own will, and must get very agitated or angry to force the transformation.
-All werewolves will transform against their will during the full moon if they suppress their werewolf side long enough (they suppress it by not transforming for an extended amount of time). It usually doesn’t take very long, so the more often ‘wolves transform, the better.

Last Name: Bell Age: 21 Sex: Male Kingdom: (Old) Werewolf Personality: Demitri is charismatic and has many female admirers. Many people like him upon sight. He is friendly and social and easy to converse with. He is also a leader, and loves to prove people wrong. He easily forgives those who wrong him, but holds huge grudges forever against those who wrong people he loves. He’s the compromiser and peacemaker in arguments. He has a carefree air to him, and can quickly diffuse hostile situations. He tends to be lazy, if he can get away with it. Description: Hair: Long(ish), messy, spiked, dark blond. It sticks up and out in all directions. Eyes: Bright Blue. Attention catching. His skin has an olive tint. He is tall and strong, but his muscles are compact. He has a long scar of about 8 inches starting from his right shoulder and going down diagonally. BONUS: In werewolf form, Demitri is small for an Old werewolf. Which of course still makes him huge compared to Now werewolves. His fur is shaggy and spiky. For coloring, it’s white grey—either it’s a really light grey or a really dark white. No other markings. His eyes are blue, like in human form, but perhaps bluer and brighter and more the color of the sky.
Last Name: Sweet Age: 19 Sex: Female Kingdom: Human Personality: Rebekah is quiet, but not shy. She listens intently in discussions or arguments, takes a long time to form an opinion, and thinks carefully about what she says before she says it. She is not a leader or a follower—she is independent, and used to being so. She is patient, except with Demitri. She is thoughtful, easy to please and often doesn’t show anxiousness, anger, sadness or other generally negative emotions. Description: Hair: Dark brown, almost black. It’s a little longer than mid-back. It’s thick and shiny and soft. Straight (but not pin-straight), with a slight wave to it. Her bangs start from a side part and have a larger section off to the right and then a smaller section to the left (Uhm, like my bangs, except to the right). Her skin is very pale and smooth. Her eyes are an odd yellow color (like a cat’s…except she’s not a cat). She’s a little taller than average height and averagely built.
