Alright everyone. I got down to work, and drew up some things about my race so you guys could get an idea of what they were like. Enjoy!
False Fae
The True Fae live in the land of Farie, a world apart from ours. Our realm and the realm of the Fae are separated by a mystical barrier known as the Bracken Gate. Similar to the world of Farie, which is always in flux based on the Fae Masters and the special Pacts (for example fire may not always burn, and grass could cut your feet) the gate has no rhyme or rhythm to its appearance. When it does appear, a small gap is opened up between the two worlds. This gate isn’t something that can physically be seen either, it tends to blend in with park hedges, or a wall of trees in the woods- you can never truly know where, when, and in what form it will be. Therefore, if on the rare occasion, a Fae or human manages to wander through the gate- the likelihood of getting back is almost 0.
Humans that wander into the Fae world almost never have happy endings. Due to the brutal nature of the world, they likely die for numerous reasons. Starvation because they find the food they eat does not satiate their hunger, or perhaps they jump into a small pond and immediately burn to death. Some humans even become slaves to the Fae masters, and are forced to do jobs that don’t make sense. Any human who lives longer than a day in the Fae world begins to show signs of insanity.
Fae that wander into the human world immediately are severed from their Fae homeland. They become outcasts, also known amongst them as The False Fae, and even if they could, in all unlikelihood, make it back they would not be recognized or welcomed. False Fae usually fare better in the human world than humans do in Farie. When a Fae goes through the Bracken Gate he dons the mask, an odd phenomenon that causes his true form to be hidden from humans. To them, he or she looks human with something odd about them that no one can ever seem to put their finger on. An elegance in step? A somewhat slender beauty in the face? To any other mythical creatures though, his true form is apparent. A Fae’s true form is nearly impossible to describe and differs for all Fae. Maddeningly beautiful, has been the best term so far. As with most things that deal with Fae, there is rarely connection between their looks and personality contradictory to what one might think. One with a reddish tinted skin, and orange hair would be correlated with a fiery nature, but could turn out to be morbid or stoic. Emotions are also completely odd for the Fae. They have been known to laugh uncontroallably at funerals, or cry endlessly as he watches a dog chase its tail. To sum things up, they’re unpredictable.
False Fae tend to wander the land with aims that are either non-existent or too complex to understand. For example, one Fae might try to count all the grains in a desert. Not all Fae spend their lives in such dreary odd ways, but some do. Their physical needs differ from any humans, so food isn’t always a necessity. Their appearances have been known to spawn stories because the way the act is usually out of place. Sometimes, Fae congregate and form small societies. These havens have been found in numerous places, and usually support anywhere from four to forty Fae. Havens are as unpredictable as the Fae themselves. They could be as normal as just gathering places in a local restaurant, to several houses that support Fae in a suburban neighborhood. On the flipside, they could be set up in a hollowed out tree in the middle of the jungle, or a bunker in the middle of a desert. Some Fae also attempt to lead “normal” lives. They may take up jobs, or go to school but something odd about them always singles them out.
