“Oh really?” He shot back looking down at the pest now striding beside him, “Because as far as I’m concerned you’re a lot about you- always flaunting around like you’re better than everyone else, like you’re more important and that we’re just wasting our time here!” River’s head was shaking again, this time involuntarily and with fury that seemed uncontrollable against all will power. How he hated her. “Always holding that map so tightly that nobody else has ANY IDEA where we’re going! Oh, but don’t worry! That doesn’t matter because you just GO! You don’t wait for anybody- even if it's YOUR MESS THAT’S HOLDING US UP.” I shouldnt’ve saved you, his body tore against his mind which longed to add that remark.

Accusations flew at Raine, and she took them in her stride, throwing them right back, her rage fueling her. “I’m a lot about me?” She laughed angry, bitter laughter. “Are you sure? Are you sure it’s not YOU who’s into himself? It’s not you who thinks he’s better than everyone? Who knows the perfect way to do things?” Raine challenged, her voice always on the rise. “I’m just doing what I’m suppoused to, and it’s not my problem that you don’t like it! That you don’t like anything that you didn’t think of, or don’t lead!” Her hands were clenched in fists, shaking slightly, but she kept her head, her eyes never leaving River’s. “You always act like you’re gracing US with your presence, like it’s such a burden for you to be here. You think you know ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, but in truth, you don’t know a thing.” Raine spat, scowling.
ooc; JULIEANN TELL ME IF THIS IS OKAY BECAUSE I ADDED A LOT FROM OUR ORIGINAL DIALOGUE.

“DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED,” he roared at her. His stride quickened as they rounded the last curve and landed roughly on the final ledge-a shear endless drop now five feet beside them threatening eerily with the empty air that seeped up through the winding towers of pine trees that filled the ravine. The trees where unnaturally huge and their broad shoulders surpassed the height of the shelf on which they were on. River continued, his eyes narrowed, “YOU’RE CREATING FALSE IMAGES THAT AREN’T EVEN THERE. I KEEP TO MYSELF,” he jabbed a finger into his chest, as the green in his eyes swirled with dark color like a tornado gathering debris. “YOU’RE THE ONE THAT’S ALWAYS BOSSING PEOPLE AROUND AND ASSERTING YOURSELF INTO EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS.” Gravel shifted under their feet at their movement, the group’s pace now angry and rough. Rocks trickled down the inner wall of the mountainside and shook with disturbance as smaller pieces fell silently over the edge into the dense air of the cavernous void below, “COULDN’T YOU JUST- FOR ONCE- HAVE STAYED OUT OF IT? THIS WHOLE THING STARTED WITH YOU!”

The flow of the argument was easy now for Raine to pick up. “With ME?” She snarled, her eyes glaring and filled with hate. “WITH YOU! I hated you from the second I saw you—pathetically trying to steal chips from a lower class shop.” Raine scoffed at the memory, marching alongside River feverishly, swinging her arms zealously, ignoring absolutely everything around her. If she had been standing still she would have crossed her arms. Her eyes were black as ever and full of life and emotion. “Belinda didn’t even want Gerand to come! So if it weren’t for YOU,” She shouted, rising onto her tip toes but still making no difference in the height gap, “I’d be here alone. If I never met you, I’d be here alone.” She repeated, for emphasis, pausing for a second. “It would be quiet, I could do things my way without any questions, and I’D BE ABLE TO TAKE THE SHORTCUT!” She yelled finally, jabbing her finger in the direction of the drain many rock-stories up.

His nostrils flared as he retorted, “Yeah, well if it weren’t for you I’d be miles away too.” He said bitterly. “I’d have nothing to do with your problems or this Belinda character,” he stared resentfully at the ground as he kicked a larger jagged piece of rock over the cliff. Then staring back at her he yelled again, “You’re already trying to abandon us- How do we know you don’t work for them and are trying to get ride of us!? Huh!?” Invisible smoke of revulsion stirred around him mixing with the dry dust that was exhaled from the cracked ground as gravel moved quietly underneath them again. The dust stung his eyes and he gritted his teeth, his temple throbbing hard against the heat of the argument as the sun tore with exhaustion at his back.

That was it. Thousands of responses came to Raine. She could pick any one of them. River’s words triggered many emotions in her, and they came flooding at her, but she ignored all of them except for one—anger. Her fury was her best friend. Her expression remained hardened into its scowl, not once showing a flicker of other emotion. His words were so stupid! - so annoying, so accusing, and so completely off the mark. If there was one serious person for the Rebellion then it was Raine. She twitched, her fingers first, and then her whole fist, and then her whole body, until she was shaking. She let frustration seep into her expression, and then perplexity and annoyance. Her fists were down at her side, aching to lash out. The irritation was just rolling off of her in visible waves that reached out to River, wrapping around him. The emotions revolved around in Raine for a while before she at last decided to give them an outlet—she threw her hands up into the air and screamed, really screamed, with all of her might: “I WAS JUST TRYING TO TAKE A SHORTCUT!”

River stopped in his tracks and turned to face her, shrieks echoing through the forest of the treetops looming beside them as he stared into poison black eyes. “Shortcut…” he spoke softly, thinking hard and pouring odium into the air between them as he glared at her through sharp spikes of dark hair. Stepping forward and reaching over her to grab hold of the backpack she was wearing, he lifted her off the ground and held her stony-faced over the side of the cliff. Her small body figure swayed vaguely over the unfathomable drop as he stared at her with a sense of satisfaction. His mouth contorted into a smirk and said bluntly, “Is that short enough for you?”

Out of nowhere River’s hand shot out and flashed over her head, and Raine stiffened and raised her hands in anticipation: she thought he was going to hit her. But then Raine was lifted into the air and dangled over the edge of the cliff. She growled, understanding now, and crossed her arms, the flurry of emotion she recently had draining and leaving behind only a distant angry residue. Her face became bored, indifferent as she stared holes through River. “Was that really necessary?” She said, her voice uninterested and unconcerned. Her eyes continued to stare at him with deep, muted intensity as she swung faintly back and forth, her feet hanging down lifelessly many distant meters above the ground.

River’s smirk widened and he smiled mockingly at her shaking his head slowly. Their eyes remained locked as they stared heatedly back at each other from within their own immovable opinions. His body stood rigid and cold, hers, swinging cross-armed and defiant. Minutes passed in stubborn determination, neither having desire to bend or break for the other.

Gerand steadily got more and more tired as dreams and nightmares plagued him during the night, and constant bickering plagued him during the day. He almost lost his cool more then once. Only his fake coffee kept him going without collapsing. In the evening he always took first watch, and he almost never stayed awake during all of it. He knew that he was starting to become a potential risk to the group, but he just couldn't get away from the constant nightmares.
And so it went that they came to a cliff. As Gerand stepped out of the treeline to see what was ahead of them he couldn't help himself. He gasped, and then started telling himself off for admiring the scenery. It was pretty, but he couldn't look at the cliff as a whole. He seemed to be the only one who always had two eyes on their surroundings. River and Raine always had one eye open, but the other always seemed to be shooting daggers at the other.
About 20 feet from the first end ramp of the cliff Gerand realized that Raine had wandered off. He turned around as a clang came from behind them. Raine had found a drain pipe. Gerand stared at it. “Where the hell did that come from? We haven't seen a sign of civilization in a few weeks.” Gerand's whisper went unnoticed. Raine and River were back at it again.
“Where are you escaping off to?” River was the instigator now. Gerand knew that Raine wouldn't pass up a chance like this to get a retort back.
“As much as I wish I could escape, I wouldn’t. It’s a shortcut.” Gerand sighed. Raine was shortsighted in some ways. She could easily fit through there, but with his pudgyness (although it had receded slightly with hard rations in the last few weeks) he would have no chance of getting through the drain.
And it continued. Two more back and forth sword lines, and then: "Oh, well you see the thing is, I LOVE walking endlessly in this heat!!! What I DON'T like is having to be here with YOU!"
That was it, time to stop this one in it's tracks. The one thing Gerand had become pretty good at was stopping the other two from ripping the other's throat out. “Uh, guys, this might be a bad time to do this.”
Raine ignored him, taking another slash at River. Gerand swore under his breath, and followed them as the continued down the slope. Raine and River ((OOC:I almost typed Rover, oops)) continued their argument, parrying and attacking each other with verbal swords.
Another few statements in (“I’m a lot about me?”) Gerand noticed there was something wrong. In the forest there had always been insects, crickets and whatnot. Even in the few minutes that they had not been in the forest the sound was traveling to his ears.
Straining to listen over the arguing (“DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED”), Gerand realized he was right. There wasn't a sound coming from the forest. He didn't know what that meant for sure, it just wasn't good. The realization hit him. They were in trouble.
Gerand dropped back from the two sparring partners (“I hated you from the second I saw you...”) and went back to a point were he could see the forest. Four human shapes. He swore horribly and almost sprinted back to where River and Raine where blissfully still arguing (“Is that short enough for you?”). The situation there was also critical.
He saw it from the row above them. River had snapped, grabbed Raine, and was holding her over the edge of the cliff. They still appeared to be talking, but they must have calmed down some, because they were no longer shouting. Gerand was running too hard and we was too distracted to read Raine's lips as she dangled hundreds of meters over her death. As he reached the path right above where River held Raine, Gerand looked down at them, and swore again. He told himself that he was an idiot, and he still thought that it was a better idea then running all the way to the end and then back. He jumped.
And he landed on his feet, almost catlike. Standing straight up he looked at Raine and River. “In case you wanted to know we're being ambushed. 4 people, it only looks like 3 have guns, however. They're just starting down the cliff. If you guys don't stop this now we're going to die.” The last statement was most likely a lie, but a little bit of added incentive doesn't hurt, right? “I don't think they saw me, but there was no way that they could have missed your shouting.”
With that statement Gerand moved some up the cliff, and saw bad news. The men were even closer now. It was time to stall. He pulled out his amra, and lined up a shot at the man closest to the edge. However his arm shook as he pulled the trigger. He missed, but not by that much. The man got a gash in his arm. He yelled and stumbled, almost going over the edge.
Gerand swore, stayed low, and ran back to about where Raine and River where. Without looking at them he looked over the edge, and found handholds. He threw himself as fast as he could over the ledge, and started climbing toward the bottom.
